Lives and works in Bucharest.
Beniamin Popescu (b. 1989) is a Romanian artist renowned for his diverse experiments ranging from painting to sculpture. He earned his degree in painting from the National University of Arts in Bucharest. Over the course of his career, Popescu has received numerous accolades from the Union of Plastic Artists and has been featured in various group exhibitions.
His work has been showcased at national contemporary art museums, as well as internationally at events such as the National Salon of Contemporary Art at the Sofia Art Museum in Bulgaria and the 2021 Biennale of Art in Chișinău.
Recently, Popescu has shifted from painting to a mixed media approach with a strong sculptural element. His recent work explores themes related to architectural structures and human anatomy, employing unconventional materials like metal, plaster, and cement. Popescu treats his studio as a research laboratory, where he experiments with new materials and techniques, driven by his fascination with objects and the creative process. His artistic practice is profoundly influenced by his childhood experiences on construction sites and the architectural surroundings of his youth. Popescu’s work embodies a dynamic interaction between artist and material, aiming to convey both emotional and intellectual messages through the layers of his creations.
