Series: Dressing the body

Dressing the Body is an art series that explores the relationship between the physical self and the layers added to navigate social and cultural contexts. The series examines how bodies are modified and presented to either conform to or resist societal norms and expectations.
Throughout history, bodies have served as a primary means of expressing identity. People engage with their bodies in various ways: ignoring, protecting, enhancing, concealing, or flaunting them.

This relationship is both passive and active. On one hand, societal standards about how bodies should look, feel, and function are passively accepted. On the other hand, these norms are actively challenged, affirmed, or rejected through personal choices and modifications. This duality creates a dynamic tension between conformity and self-expression.
In Dressing the Body, this dynamic is explored through various artistic techniques. The series uses elements like clothing, mud, and paint to show how bodies are “dressed” to reveal or conceal aspects of identity. The body becomes an active part of the artwork, expressing vulnerability and strength, and the series goes beyond mere representation to highlight the body’s essential nature.
